Our Graduates
Secondary School Placement
Choosing the right high school after Mizzentop may seem like a daunting task, but families here receive guidance and assistance throughout the process. Beginning in Fifth Grade, our Director of Secondary School Placement works with students in our private day school, encouraging them to consider what qualities they would want in a high school: courses, clubs, athletics, the arts, community service, campus size, class size, etc. All Middle School students are invited to attend informational sessions with admission officers visiting Mizzentop from schools across the region. In those sessions, students have the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about each campus as they gain insight into the application process.
Each spring, Mizzentop hosts a Secondary School Fair, allowing Middle School families the opportunity to meet admission officers from dozens of independent and parochial high schools. Seventh Grade parents gain further insight into the application process in the Secondary School Information Night with the Director of Secondary School Placement.
By Eighth Grade, students and families have an idea of schools they wish to attend. Students complete projects like the "Inner Me" costume and mock interviews during Advisory to help them prepare for the application process ahead. Mizzentop offers an SSAT (Secondary School Placement Test) prep class in the fall to help students in our private day school prepare for the exam required by many independent schools. Additionally, they receive guidance with essays and recommendations from their teachers and the Head of School so that by March, they have secured a place as high school freshmen.
