Annual Fund

Dear Mizzentop Day School Supporters:

In 2008-2009, Mizzentop Day School stepped forward into a second decade and a new age. Although our roots are now ten years old and are steeped in tradition, in many ways our school is breaking new ground. It is our tradition that, we believe, has earned the support of our contributors, and it is our transition into the future that necessitates their continued support.

What exactly is old at Mizzentop Day School? An excellent education utilizing hands-on, problem-solving methods of instruction; a solid foundation based on twelve important and essential living values; attention to each student as a unique and special individual; a family atmosphere; a dedicated staff that provides a safe, caring, nurturing environment for children - these represent the foundation of our school and will continue to be emphasized in our school’s future.

And what exactly was new at Mizzentop Day School this past year? Need-based financial aid, allowing the school to further expand its already economically diverse student body; a departmentalized approach to our Middle School to provide greater emphasis on core subjects; the establishment of curriculum benchmarks to assure a progressive pace in academic subjects; the approval of our report responding to the recommendations of the Visiting Team of the New York State Association of Independent Schools, solidifying our accreditation; our recent partnership with the Pawling Central Schools in a joint community project, providing an excellent example of teamwork and community service to our students – these are new directions that continue and support our school’s mission and goals.

So what is it that makes Mizzentop Day School so special? A balanced blend between the old and the new, the traditional and the progressive.

And at the heart of it all are the children – children from our early days who are now successful secondary or college students, and children today in our classrooms, ranging in age from 3 to 15, with ambitions, dreams and goals for their futures which we are attempting to help them reach on a daily basis – an effort that depends heavily on the partnership between students, parents, faculty, supporters and the general community.

To accomplish this mammoth task over the years, we have relied on your support. With the Summary Report of Donors, in our Annual Report, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have provided that support during the 2008-2009 Academic Year. For almost all independent schools, funding in addition to tuition income is a must to be able to survive and improve. We are no different.  Therefore, our survival and continued progress is the result of your support, and we wish to acknowledge that support with the publication of our Annual Report.

It is our hope that those whose names appear there will continue to add their names to our donor lists each year, helping us to continue what they have already helped us start. At present, in our classrooms daily you can find approximately 165 reasons to continue that support. You have helped us make this quality education a reality for those 165 children, and we truly thank you.

Sincerely,

 Steve Cash
