Mizzentop Admissions

Mizzentop Day School welcomes inquiries from all families interested in our school. We invite parents to call or email us to receive information and to schedule an appointment with our Director of Admissions to tour our school while it is in session. Families interested in Mizzentop Day School should contact Carney O'Brien, Director of Admissions, at 845-855-7338, or by email at cobrien@mizzentop.org. An Open House is offered for prospective students and their families, typically at the end of January.

Application Process

  1. Contact the Director of Admissions to obtain an informational packet and brochure that describes our program in detail. An application is also included.
  2. After you receive the packet, set up a meeting to tour the facility.
  3. Submit an application with the fee of $45.00 at any time prior to the beginning of the school year. Applicants should have average to superior intellectual potential and have no behavior or emotional problems that would interfere with the instructional program for them and for other students.
  4. Applications for Kindergarten and above must submit a Teacher's Recommendation form to their current teacher. You are also responsible for submitting the request for Release of Student Information form to your child's present school. After reviewing these, the Admissions office will set up a visit day for the child.
  5. Parents are notified of decisions by mail.

Admissions Philosophy

The Admissions Committee considers all aspects of a child's development including his academic, social, emotional and physical makeup when reviewing an application.

  • For younger children applying to our Kindergarten and Pre-kindergarten programs, we consider the results of our developmental screening, teacher recommendations (if available) and a personal visit and interview.
  • For older students, we consider the child's academic record and observations of his or her day visit and results of the math and writing assessments.

Applicants should have average to superior intellectual potential and no behavior or emotional problems that would interfere with the instructional program for themselves or for other students.
